Today, march 6th, 2026, the Department of Electronics, Electrical and Automatic control Engineering has held the elections for director. Dr. Hugo Valderrama, has renewed the confidence of the members of the Department, and has been re-elected director for a second and final term of 6 years. From an electoral body of 65 people, it has obtained 45 votes in favor, and 4 in blank. The department has improved the last 4 years, and wants to continue this growth dynamics, incorporating new lecturers, and rejuvenating the staff with professors with teaching profiles equivalent to those who retire to ensure good teaching quality. However, we also want to incorporate, in a sustainable and responsible way, profiles of excellence in research: microelectronics, ICT, renewable energies, electrical networks, biomedicine, etc. Among the director's concerns are the lack of space, reducing the excess of teaching charge that many professors experience, and continuing the improvement of teaching laboratories. The sustained growth of the department in recent years has also generated additional work for a secretariat that was already short of staff. In this sense, another concern of the director is to get more staff for the secretariat, minimize their mobility and ensure a good replacement for all the PTGAS of the department. The new director also wants to continue the investment plan in research equipment, strengthen the department's websites, and improve the two meeting rooms that we have, to be able to defend doctoral theses, meetings, tribunals of places, and meetings of the department council, in a hybrid format.
